Are you interested in improving your dialogue skills? Are you working on transforming conflicts or preventing its escalation? The Nansen Training in Dialogue and Conflict Transformation is based on our field experiences from more than 20 years of work in a variety of situations, such as Western Balkans, Iraq, Afghanistan and Ukraine.
Participants attending the Nansen Facilitation Training were clear on their feedback on their views on how and why this training was useful for their work. Some of them work in countries affected by conflict, such as Afghanistan, Somalia, Ukraine. Others have challenges in other non-conflict related situations in Norway or Denmark, where dialogue can be used to increase social cohesion and participation.
“Dialogue is not about forgiving, forgetting or excusing the other. Dialogue is about listening and learning why and how it was done”. This was the key message by Alfredo Zamudio during his recent visit to Albania, as a guest to Diplohack Tirana 2018.
The Nansen Center for Peace and Dialogue are working together with the Afghanistan Committee to strengthen the local capacity for dialogue and conflict management in Afghanistan. Norunn Grande recently returned after an assignment in the war-torn country. “I enjoy spending time in Afghanistan, and people are clearly happy to have us. Every time I am there, I learn something new, but it is hard to hear about the very difficult situation people are living with”, says Norunn Grande.
Evaluation of the dialogue projects in the Balkans
Keep on talking! That is the title of an evaluation of the Nansen Dialogue Network’s initiatives and efforts in the Balkans, done by researchers at the Christian Michelsens Institute (CMI). The report is from 2008 but it is highly relevant ten years after. The Nansen Dialogue Centers in the Western Balkans are still working on inclusion, trust, and better communication, understanding and cooperation.
